Load Shedding

Most households do not require much when faced with loadshedding. As a result, we have put together a small mobile package which can feed critical loads when the power goes off. These loads typically are fridges, personal computers, internet routers and lights in the home. The number of loads which are connected to the system will determine how long the batteries will last.

Below is an example of the common loads which are needed within a home during loadshedding. If the loads in the example run continuously then we will need to be able to supply at least 582W for an hour. To have the loads running for another hour we need to supply at least 1.164kWh.

Using the lead acid technology of batteries significantly reduces the cost of the system, however they should only be discharged to 50% of the battery capacity. The number of charge and discharge cycles is also significantly lower than that of the lithium counterpart, so replacing the battery will come sooner in the lead acid case.
